This was my first real snowfall in Washington, and I believe it was the first one of the season in Rockport. It was early, around six in the morning, the kind of quiet where all you hear is the snow landing on trees and farm animals. I’d just finished a bowl of oats and spent the next hour outside, playing in the snow like any 19-year-old kid from South Louisiana probably would.
There’s something about the gloom of a dark, cloudy day that feels comforting to me. Maybe it’s the stillness, or maybe it’s just the way the world slows down.
